Ferrette

Ferrette ( German Pfirt ) is a commune with 828 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Altkirch, is the capital of the canton of Ferrette and seat of the municipal association Alsatian Jura.

Geography

In the north and west is the municipality of Vieux- Ferrette and in the south and the east Bouxwiller. In Ferrette the Sentier Interregio, an inter-municipal hiking trail, which then passes through the special village located south west begins. In addition, the cantonal capital, on the south by Ligsdorf and on the southwest by Bendorf.

South of the town center lies the hamlet of mountain meadows.

History

Today's settlement, which bears the name " Ferrette " originated about 900 years ago. At that time it was ruled by the Habsburgs. Pfirt was also the capital of the county Pfirt.
