In 1413 the church was mentioned as Keuonet 1480 as Geffenat.

By the Peace of Westphalia Guevenatten belonged to Seigneurie of Thann and the county Pfirt. The place was until the 17th century fief of Reinach Hirtzbach family. On October 6th, 1832, burned down about twenty houses and associated stables and barns. The fire spread so quickly that the residents could not save their belongings. 1865 there was a wheat mill on site.
