James Dellet

Dellet James ( born February 18, 1788 in Camden, New Jersey, † December 21, 1848 in Claiborne, Monroe County, Alabama) was an American lawyer and politician ( Whig Party ).

Career

James Dellet moved in 1800 with his parents to Columbia (South Carolina). He graduated in 1810 from the University of South Carolina. He studied law and practiced upon receipt of his admission as a solicitor in 1813. Dellet moved to Alabama in 1818, where he settled in Claiborne and further worked as a lawyer. He was elected in 1819 in the first House of Representatives from Alabama, where he held the post of Speaker likewise. Then he was re-elected in 1821 and 1825 in the House of Commons. Dellet ran unsuccessfully in 1833 for a seat in the U.S. Congress. He was first elected to the 26th U.S. Congress, where he served from March 4, 1839 to March 3, 1841. Dellet was re- elected to the 28th U.S. Congress, where he served from March 4, 1843 to March 3, 1845. Then he took his work as a lawyer and also went back to farm work after.
