Miles C. Allgood

Miles Clayton Allgood (* February 22, 1878 in Chepultepec (now Allgood ), Blount County, Alabama, † March 4, 1977 in Fort Payne, Alabama ) is an American politician (Democratic Party).

Career

Miles Clayton Allgood attended the Community School and then graduated in 1898 at the State Normal College in Florence ( Alabama). Then he taught in Blount County and worked 1900-1909 as Steuereinschätzer in Blount County.

Allgood also pursued a political career. He was 1908-1910 a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee. Then he worked 1910-1913 as Agricultural Demonstration Agent in Blount County. Then he held between 1914 and 1918 the position of state auditor. Allgood was 1918-1922 as Commissioner for Agriculture and industries. Then he took in 1920 as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco in part. Allgood was elected to the 68th U.S. Congress and reelected to the five succeeding Congresses U.S., but he suffered in 1934 when his nomination for the 74th U.S. Congress defeat. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives on 4 March 1923 to 3 January 1935. During this time, he had presided over the Committee on War Claims ( 72nd and 73rd U.S. Congress ).

After the expiration of his term he was on 4 September 1935 until his resignation on December 1, 1943 a member of the Farm Security Administration. Then he ran unsuccessfully in 1954 for the post of Finance Minister of Alabama.

Allgood died 1977 in Fort Payne (Alabama ) and was buried in the Valley Head Cemetery in Valley Head (Alabama ).
