Pete Jarman

Bryant Peterson " Pete " Jarman ( born October 31, 1892 in Greensboro, Alabama, † February 17, 1955 in Washington DC) was an American soldier and politician (Democratic Party).

Life

Pete Jarman attended a public school, the Normal College in Livingston and the Southern University in Greensboro. He then graduated in 1913 from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and then visited in 1919, the University of Montpellier in France. In between, he was 1913-1917 as a clerk at the probate court in Sumter County operates. He also served in the First World War overseas, first as Second and later as a First Lieutenant in the 327th Infantry. After his return to the United States he served in the Alabama National Guard, where he served as inspector general with the rank of Major 1922-1924. After that, he was 1924-1940 Division Chief of 31st Infantry Division, where he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Moreover, he went 1919-1930 an activity to which Bank as Deputy Auditor.

Jarman also pursued a political career. He was 1927-1930 a member of the State Democratic Executive Committee of Alabama. In the following year he became Secretary of State in the state government of Alabama and held this position until 1934. Afterwards he was in the years 1935 and 1936 worked as deputy auditors officials. Jarman was elected to the 75th U.S. Congress and the five succeeding Congresses. In 1948 his candidacy for the 81st Congress, however, he suffered a defeat. He served on the U.S. House of Representatives from 3 January 1937 to 3 January 1949. During this time, he had presided over the Committee on Memorials ( 75th Congress ). Jarman was appointed by U.S. President Harry S. Truman as ambassador to Australia on 8 June 1949. He held this position as successor by Myron M. Cowen until 31 July 1953. Jarman died in 1955 in Washington and was buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
