Sonny Callahan

Herbert Leon " Sonny " Callahan ( born September 11, 1932 in Mobile, Alabama ) is an American politician ( Republican).

Career

Sonny Callahan graduated in 1950 from McGill Institute High School in Mobile ( Alabama). Then he visited 1959-1960, the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was also 1952-1954 in the U.S. Navy and then worked as a businessman. Callahan was 1971-1979 Member of the House of Representatives from Alabama. After that, he was between 1979 and 1983 Member of the Senate of Alabama. He ran unsuccessfully in 1982 for the Democratic nomination for the office of Lieutenant Governor of Alabama. Then he was elected as a Republican to the 99th Congress and reelected to the eight succeeding Congress. He stood as a candidate in 2002 not for the 108th U.S. Congress.
