Valdieu-Lutran

Valdieu - Lutran ( German Gottesthal ) is a commune of 393 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Altkirch, for Canton Dannemarie and community association Porte d'Alsace.

Geography

The community Valdieu - Lutran located in the center of the Burgundian gate between Altkirch and Belfort. Through the municipal area leads the Rhine -Rhône Canal, which overcomes here the watershed between the Rhine and Rhone by means of a lock staircase.

In the district Valdieu the trunk road from Belfort the Rhine - Rhône Canal crosses to Altkirch. This one opens into the channel branches Leitgraben water on the Largue at Friesen to ensure the water supply in the summit level of the canal. In the slightly more southern district Lutran is the church of the community. The Town Hall ( Mairie ) was built between the two parts of the municipality. Valdieu also had a station on the railway line Paris -Mulhouse, but this had to be closed with the opening of the LGV Rhin -Rhône. He shall, as soon as it enables the capacity of the route, be reopened.

Neighboring communities of Valdieu - Lutran are Elbach in the northeast, Retzwiller in the east, Romagny in the south, in the southwest of Magny, Montreux -Vieux in the west and Chavannes -sur- l'Étang in the northwest.

History

The municipality was created on 1 January 1973 by the merger of the municipalities Valdieu and Lutran.
