Weddingstedt

Weddingstedt is a municipality in the district of Dithmarschen in Schleswig-Holstein.

History

Probably Weddingstedt was in the peasant republic Dithmar meeting of farmers from the Norderdöfft, the northern part of the Bauer Republic.

After Meldorfer Cathedral here was the second church of the region; however, it was burned down in 1559, as Dithmar finally lost its independence. The later built St. Andrew's Church is still one of the oldest cultural monuments of the circle.

In 1969 the merger of the previously independent municipalities Borgholz, Weddinghusen and Weddingstedt the municipality Weddingstedt. Since then, the population of between about 1700 to about 2320 inhabitants.

The railway line Hamburg- Westerland goes through Weddingstedt. Until the early 1980s in Weddingstedt was also a stop.

The community was until the merger with the Office Kirchspielslandgemeinde community heath - land on 1 January 2008 the administrative seat of the Office Kirchspielslandgemeinde community Weddingstedt.

Geography

The community Weddingstedt is on the Geest, right on the edge of march. It consists of the districts Borgholz, Waldstedt, Weddinghusen and Weddingstedt.

Policy

Of the 13 seats in the municipal council, the SPD has since the local elections in 2013 five seats, the voter community FWW (CDU Weddingstedt ) and the voter community KWV ( Municipal constituency association ) each have four seats.

Economy and infrastructure

Today Weddingstedt is mainly influenced by the proximity to the city of Heath. In Weddingstedt one hand, live comparatively many city commuters, on the other hand originated here commercial areas that benefit from the city vicinity and access to the Federal Highway 23.
