William Benjamin Craig

William Benjamin Craig ( born November 2, 1877 in Selma, Dallas County, Alabama, † November 27, 1925 ) was an American lawyer and politician (Democratic Party).

Career

William Benjamin Craig attended the public school and high school in Selma. Then he graduated from the Law Department of Cumberland University in Lebanon (Tennessee). He was admitted as a solicitor in 1898 and then began to practice in Selma. He then worked as an instructor for mechanic shops in the Southern Railway in Selma 1893-1897. He served first as a private, then as a commissioned officer and finally as captain in the Alabama National Guard. Craig was 1903-1907 Member of the Senate of Alabama. He was elected to the 60th U.S. Congress and re-elected in the following 61 U.S. Congress. Craig decided in 1910 against a candidacy for the 62nd U.S. Congress. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives on 4 March 1907 to 3 March 1911. Then he went to Selma back to his work as a lawyer after. He died there in 1925 and was buried in the Live Oak Cemetery.
