Windbergen

Windbergen is a municipality in the district of Dithmarschen in Schleswig-Holstein.

Geography

The municipality is located on the same ridge of the heath - Itzehoer Geest, on which lies the city Meldorf.

The districts are Windberger station, Spersdiek and narrow pelvis.

History

The church was originally part of the parish Meldorf. As in 1495 on one acre a brass figure of the crucified Jesus was found, the locals built a chapel here. Until the advent of the Reformation in 1533 Dithmar the pilgrimage to the Holy Cross was very popular. In 1547 the church became a parish church.

Attractions

  • The old, small church of the Holy Cross was demolished in 1742 and rebuilt new and much larger in the same place, but still one of the smaller churches in Dithmar.
