World Orienteering Championships
The World Orienteering Championships (World Orienteering Championships, short WOC ) are discharged from the World Orienteering Federation ( IOF) since 1966. By 2003 world championships in orienteering biennial wear (with one exception, the World Championships 1979). Since 2003 she has held every year.
Originally there was an individual competition and a relay only two disciplines. 1991 was included in the World Championship program with the short throw another discipline. Since 2001 there is a separate sprint competition ( winning time about 15 minutes) and 2003 the short distance was replaced by a middle distance ( winning time 30-40 minutes). The former so-called individual competition will be held today under the name of long- distance ( winning time between 60 and 90 minutes). From 2014 there is with the sprint relay teams for Mixed another competition. In return, the qualification runs are spread over the middle and long distance. The starting places will be awarded in these two competitions on a ranking list (see rankings for starting place award at World Orienteering Championships ).
