Counties of Iran

Restan Shah (Persian شهرستان, singular: schahrestān, plural: schahrestānhā; County ) is the name for the Iranian administrative unit below the provincial level. The Iranian provinces are divided into counties ( shah RESTAN ), below which there is still the circles ( baksch; بخش, singular: Bakhsh, plural: bakhshhā ) and below the level of cities ( shahr ) / counties ( dehestan ) are.

The administrative districts are the administrative level below the provinces (singular: Ostān, plural: ostānhā ) and above the county level Represents the word Shah Restan comes from the Persian word shahr meaning " city " and the ending stan. It is headed by a governor ( فرماندار ).

Iran has 31 provinces, 336 Schahrestans (administrative districts), 889 Bachschs (circles), 1,016 cities ( Shahr ) and 2,400 counties ( Dehestan ) and about 62,000 villages. The Alborz Province was founded on June 23, 2010 by removal of part of the province Tehrān.

A typical cycle includes both cities ( شهر shahr ) and counties ( دهستان, singular: dehestān, plural: dehestānhā ), which groups of neighboring villages. A city within the circle serves as its capital.

Survey

For a better understanding of the administrative units, the following overview serves. As an example, a province P serves two administrative districts ( Shah Restan ): A and B. County A has three circles ( Bachsch ): Center, X and Y. The circle center is the one circle in which lies the town of M, the main town in the county. Each circle contains one or more cities and one or more LK ( counties ). In our example, the center of the circle contains the town of M, N and the city LK T, which is composed of the villages of D1, D2, D3 and D4; District X contains City O and the LK U; and district Y has no cities and a LK. The smallest administrative district consists of only one city as a single circle which means, of course center. County ( Shah Restan ) B in the following table is such a type, it contains only a city: Q.

The following are the administrative districts ( Shah Restan ) are broken down by the Iranian provinces. Be used as the English words for the names of the various administrative units, for example: Ostan (province), Shah Restan ( sub-province/county/city ) Bachsch ( county / district ), Dehestan ( township / rural districts / rural agglomeration ), Abadi (village ).
