Austria at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Austria participated in the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 with 130 athletes, including 41 women and 89 men in 14 of the 15 sports in part. Only in the curling Austria was not represented.

The Austrian Olympic Committee nominated the athletes officially on 27 January 2014. This was the largest ever Austria's squad at the Olympic Winter Games. Just for the Summer Games in Berlin in 1936 sent the ÖOC with 176 athletes and more athletes. Of the 130 athletes eventually took 125 Participate in competitions. The cross-country skiers John Dürr was excluded on the final day of the Games because of a positive doping tests from the ÖOC team.

On 27 January 2014 the ÖOC announced that the skier Benjamin Raich, a double Olympic champion in Turin in 2006, at the opening ceremony of the Austrian delegation should be headed as a standard-bearer. A few days before the opening ceremony said Raich, that he will travel to Sochi later than planned and therefore can not be the standard bearer. At the closing ceremony of the Austrian flag of the Olympic champion in the inaugural Snowboard Parallel Slalom, Julia Dujmovits was carried into the stadium.

The Austrian athletes won at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 17 medals, including four gold, eight silver and five bronze. Thus, the Games of Sochi were measured at the Medals third most successful games in the ÖOC history. Only at the Games in Turin in 2006 and 1992 in Albertville, the Austrian delegation was able to win more medals.

The most successful Austrian athlete of the Games was the alpine skier Anna Fenninger, who won the Super-G gold and silver in the giant slalom. Matthias Mayer became the first Austrian since 2002, the prestigious gold medal in Austria in downhill skiing. The 34 -year-old Mario Matt was with his victory in the slalom to the oldest Olympic gold medalist in alpine skiing. Julia Dujmovits won the first snowboarding gold medal for Austria and the first medal in the Winter Games for Burgenland.
