Martin County (Minnesota)

The Martin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. In 2010, the County had 20,840 inhabitants and a population density of 11.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fairmont.

Geography

The County is located in southern Minnesota and bordering Iowa. It has an area of 1890 square kilometers, of which 52 square kilometers are water surface. At the Martin County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Martin County was formed on 23 May 1857 parts of Brown County and the Faribault County. It was named after Morgan Lewis Martin (1805-1887), a U.S. - Congressman from Wisconsin Territory ( 1845-1847 ).
