Schönwalde, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Schonwalde is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Greifswald in eastern Mecklenburg -Vorpommern ( Germany ). The community is managed by the Office of Uecker- Randow Valley with offices in the city Pasewalk.

Geography

The community on the border to Brandenburg is located about seven kilometers northwest of Pasewalk. It is located in a hilly site that slopes to Ueckertal toward the east. The area is predominantly agricultural.

History

Near the local part Stolzenburg is located at Darschkowsee a castle wall. This is reported as a ground monument. He is considered its name to the place and was mentioned in 1793. The up to eight meters high wall has been stressed by agricultural use and largely demolished. Shards discoveries allow the dating between the 8th century and 10th century. The cemetery Stolzenburg was investigated on the A20 in the course of the route works.

Schonwalde was until 1945 a domain, in contrast to the surrounding communities who were farming villages. The domain was leased in the 1920s to the Dreetz family and in the 1930s the family Lohmann. Schonwalde 1946 be settled by locals and refugees. The manor house was converted after 1945, with its noble floor to a school; in the basement and on the ground lived refugees, mainly from the area of Pila.
