Estonia at the Olympics

The NOC of Estonia, the Eesti Olümpiakomitee, was founded in 1923 and recognized in 1924 by the IOC. Estonia took up 1936 Olympic Games in part. From 1952 to 1988 occurred Estonian athletes at the Soviet Olympic team. Since 1992, Estonia occurs again with its own Olympic team and since then took part in all the summer and winter games.

A total of 313 participants, including 61 women, seconded. Estonian athletes won a total of 33 medals in summer and seven medals at the Winter Games.

The first medalist Estonia was on 22 August 1920, the marathon runner Jüri Loss man who won the silver medal. The first Olympic champion was able to celebrate seven days later, when the weightlifter Alfred Neuland won the lightweight. The first medal for a woman at the same time the first Olympic victory, it was on 31 July 1992, when the cyclist Erika Salumäe successfully defended her title in the sprint, which she won in 1988 for the Soviet Union, in Barcelona for Estonia.

All seven medals at the Winter Games athletes won Estonian cross-country skier. With 14 years in 1992, the figure skater Olga Vasilyeva the youngest participant of Estonia at the Olympics. The oldest participant was 46 years in 1936 with the figure skater Eduard Hiiop.

Venue

As part of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, the Estonian capital Tallinn hosted the sailing competitions.
