Zambia at the Olympics

Zambia, the NOK, the National Olympic Committee of Zambia, was founded in 1964, took the first time in 1964, under the name Northern Rhodesia, at Summer Olympics in part. Since 1968, the name of Zambia is being used. In 1976 the country took part in the boycott of the Olympic Games of Montreal to protest against the participation of New Zealand. A total of 140 participants were sent, of which 12 are women. First medal winner in 1984 was the boxer Keith Mwila, who won the bronze medal in the light flyweight. By winning the silver medal in the 400 meter hurdles the athlete Samuel Matete 1996 was more successful.

The youngest participant was 1972 athlete Beatrice Lungu, which started in the 100 and 200 meters at the age of 15 years and retired in each case in the flow. The oldest participant was in 1980, the marathon runner Damiano Musonda, the 48th occupied.
