Guyana at the Olympics
Guyana, the NOK, which was Guyana Olympic Association, founded in 1935, sent after independence from Britain in 1966 for the first time in 1968 athletes to the Summer Games. Up to 1976 Guyana took part in all the following summer games. Already 1948-1964 athletes took part under the name of British Guiana. At the Winter Games no Guyanese athletes have so far been sent.
A total of 70 participants were sent, of which ten are women.
The most successful athlete and the only medal winner is the boxer Michael Anthony, who in 1980 won the bronze medal in the bantamweight.
2012 began with the 15 -year-old swimmer Britany van Lange, the youngest athlete Guyana's part. The oldest participant was 34 years in 1992 with the cyclist Aubrey Richmond.
