Iceland at the Olympics

The Olympic history of Iceland began with the Summer Olympics in 1908, when for the first time an athlete from Iceland, the wrestler Jóhannes Jósefsson, took in the Olympics. Iceland was independent at this time not from Denmark and had neither its own sports association still a National Olympic Committee (NOC ).

On 28 January 1912, the Icelandic Sports Association ( Íþróttasamband Íslands ) was established. The Icelandic NOK was founded on September 29, 1921 and received by the International Olympic Committee on 11 January 1935.
