Argentina at the Olympics

Argentina, the NOK, the Comité Olímpico Argentino was founded in 1923 since 1900 athletes, sent to the Olympics. Was not taken part in the Summer Games in 1904, 1912 and 1980 and at the Winter Games in 1924, 1932, 1936 and 1956.

A total of 1699 participants were sent, of which 256 are women. Argentine athletes won a total of 70 medals in the Summer Games, Winter Games, they went far from empty. The most medals ( 24) were obtained in boxing, so Argentina is the most successful nation in this sport at the Olympics.

First medal winners and simultaneously the first Olympic champion Argentina was the polo national team, which defeated the U.S. team 6-5 on July 12, 1924. First medal winner in an individual sport was on the same day the athlete Luis Brunetto, the silver in the triple jump won. The float Alberto Zorrilla was born on August 9, 1928 the first Olympic champion Argentina in an individual sport, when he won the 400 -meter freestyle in a new Olympic record.

With two silver and two bronze medals, the hockey player Lucha Aymar and the sailors Carlos Espínola are the athletes with the most medals.

1960 took the 13 -year-old rower Jorge Somlay the youngest athletes of Argentina part. The oldest participant was 60 years in 1964 with Oscar Rompani, also a rower.
