Tunisia at the Olympics

Tunisia, whose NOK, which was the Comité National Olympique Tunisia, founded in 1957 and recognized in the same year by the IOC, took part in the first 1960 Summer Olympics. In 1980, Tunisia joined the boycott in Moscow. At the Winter Games No athletes have so far been sent.

A total of 382 participants were sent, of which 48 are women. Tunisian athletes won ten medals. First medalist was on 14 October 1964, the athlete Mohamed Gammoudi, who won the 10,000 m silver. Gammoudi is also the first Olympic champion of Tunisia. In 1968 he won the race over 5000 meters. At the same time Gammoudi is also the most successful Tunisian athlete with four medals ( one gold, two silver and one bronze ). As the only woman in 2012 Habiba Ghribi won silver with over 3000 meter steeplechase a medal.

Youngest participant was in 2000 Oussama Mellouli of swimmers who went to the start at the age of 16 years. The oldest participant was 44 years in 1960 with the fencer Raoul Barouch.
