History

The Olympic movement Gambia was formed at the beginning of the 1970s. At the instigation of Mahtarr A. Sarr, the " National Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association " was founded in 1972. The association was not recognized by the IOC, because he did not fulfill one of the basic conditions, the steering of at least five Olympic sports.

Under Omar Sey example, the new president of the Gambia National Olympic Committee, a second request for inclusion in the Olympic family was provided. After preliminary approval, the IOC to the application during its 78th Session in Montreal upheld.
