Iraq at the Olympics

Iraq whose NOK, the National Olympic Committee of Iraq, was established in 1948 and recognized in the same year by the IOC since 1948 takes part in the Olympic Summer Games. 1952 was decided not to participate, 1956 boycotted Iraq because of the Suez Crisis, the Games of Melbourne. Even in 1972 no delegation was sent to Munich. In 1976, Iraq as one of two non-African countries, the second country was Guyana, in solidarity to the boycott of the Games of Montreal participated. On winter games, the country has never participated so far.

A total of 174 athletes were, among them six women on. Athletes from Iraq could yet win a medal. First and only medal winner is the weightlifter Abdu l - Wahid Aziz, who was able to win the bronze medal in 1960 in the lightweight.

The youngest member of an Iraqi team was 2012, the float Mohanad Al- Azzawi, who went to the start at the age of 15 years. The weightlifter Hadi Abdul-Jabbar in 1964 at the age of 34 years oldest participant.
