Mexico at the Olympics

Mexico, the NOK, the Comité Olímpico Mexicano was founded in 1923 and recognized in the same year by the IOC since 1924 takes part in all Summer Olympic Games. As early as 1900, a delegation of Mexican athletes was sent to the Games of Paris. Also at various Winter Games, the first time in 1928, Mexico participated.

A total of 1457 Mexican athletes, including 278 women, were sent to the Olympic Games. They won 62 medals. The first medal ( bronze ) was recovered in 1900 from the polo national team. First Olympic champion in 1948 Jumping Humberto Mariles, who won both the individual as well as with the team. The first woman to win a medal was, in 1968, the fencer Pilar Roldán, the silver foil won in singles. First Olympic champion in 2000 Soraya Jimenez. The weightlifter won the lightweight. The youngest member of a Mexican team in 1968 was a swimmer, Marcia Arriaga, which was launched at the age of 13 years. The dressage rider Julio Herrera in 1968 at age 57 the oldest participants.

Alignment of Olympic Games

Mexico is the first Latin American country, the Summer Olympic Games has aligned. From September 12 to October 27, 1968 took place in Mexico City instead of the Games of the 29th Olympiad, the sailing competitions were held in Acapulco. In the 61st IOC meeting in Baden- Baden 1962 Mexico City was awarded the contract ahead of the competitors Detroit ( USA), Lyon ( France) and Buenos Aires ( Argentina).
