Birkheim

Birkheim is a municipality in the Rhein- Hunsrück district, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Emmelshausen.

Birkheim lies to the east of the Hunsrück, between the Middle Rhine Valley and the Federal Highway 61

History

The place was first mentioned in 1310 as Bircheym and stood until the late 18th century under the sovereignty Kurtriers.

With the annexation of the left bank of the Rhine (1794 ) by French revolutionary troops, the place was French. From 1798 to 1814 Birkheim belonged to the canton of Sankt Goar in the Rhine- Moselle department, and from 1800 to the Mairie Sankt Goar. Because of the Congress of Vienna (1815 ) agreements, the region was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia. Under the Prussian administration came Birkheim 1816 for mayor Pfalzfeld in the district Sankt Goar and Koblenz Region in the province of the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine ( 1822 Rhine Province ). After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French, the place is since 1946 part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded. Since 1970, the local church Birkheim belongs to the municipality Emmelshausen.
