Gehlweiler

Gehlweiler is a municipality in the Rhein- Hunsrück district, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Kirchberg (Hunsrück ).

Geographical location

Gehlweiler is centrally located in the Hunsrück on the western slope of the Soon Forest, opposite the Lützelsoon, the ladle stream flows through the village.

History

The place is first mentioned in 1317 under the name ' Gelwilre '. He was part of the County of Sponheim. 1707 Gehlweiler went over in Baden possession. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops, the place was French, 1815, he was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate newly formed. Today's local coat of arms is derived from the family coat of arms of the noble family of Koppenstein.

Parish council

The local council in Gehlweiler consists of six council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009, by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Structures

One of the attractions is the castle ruins Koppenstein, from which one has a good overview on all the neighboring villages (including Gemunden, Rohrbach and Henau ).

The other home

Gehlweiler fame as the location for the film series home of director Edgar Reitz. In 2012, Reitz turned as the final movie cinema The other home. For the filming Gehlweiler were built with the support of the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Economy scenes and conversions in that made the rise again around 1840. At that time, many people emigrated to Brazil from Hunsrücker ( there is still spoken Riograndenser Hunsrückisch ). This emigration is the main theme of the film. Filming began on 17 April 2012 in Gehlweiler and ended in August of the same year.
