Mengerschied

Mengerschied is a municipality in the Rhein- Hunsrück district, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality simmering / Hunsrück.

Geography

The village lies at the foot of the Soonwald amidst the hilly landscape of the Hunsrück in the valley of Lametbachs. In the village unite the Lamet and the Brühlbach and flow toward the Kellenbach valley, which is the continuation of Simmersbach valley. The existing of only a few houses Layenkaul district is located northeast of the village on Brühlbach.

History

Mengerschied is one of the older places in the Rhein- Hunsrück-Kreis. In a document around 1080 the place name appears as " Mengezerodt ". The name was transformed in the 15th and 16th centuries on " Mengersroit ", " Mengersrade " (1502 ), " Mengerschitt " ( 1584) to " Mengerschied " ( 1785 ).

Mengerschied belonged to the upper office and Duchy of Pfalz- simmering and came 1673 to the Electoral Palatinate. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops, the place was French, 1815, he was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. A disastrous fire in 1841 that destroyed 28 buildings and subsequent years of famine left more than 50 people to Brazil, USA, England and South Africa emigrate. During World War II, large damage incurred in place by artillery fire. Since 1946 it has been part of the newly founded state of Rhineland- Palatinate.

Parish council

Industry and agriculture

Numerous crafts, agriculture, forestry and Schieferbau have long been the main sources of income of the population. The approximately 450 hectares in field mark is appointed today instead of about 70 small farmers in 1950 only 4 main time farmers. The majority of workers are employed in service. In the village only a few trades such as bakers, butchers, carpenters or painters are located.

Leisure

The place is well connected to the Hunsrück walking and cycling network Schinderhannes Soonwaldsteig cycle path from simmering to Gemünden. Numerous excursions offered by the border directly to the place Soonwaldsteig. A hiking destination is the upper Lametbach valley with small waterfalls and rock formation near the old cow. About this rock formation located entwines an old legend: Then the "old cow " rotate once around themselves when they can hear the ringing of the lunch Menger Schieder church.

The " Soonwaldsteig Palace" of Soonwaldsteig chateau educational institution GmbH on the outskirts of the village Mengerschied is the scene of the shot in April and May 2006 and in the ARD first broadcast in January 2007 television series The brides School in 1958, in the 10 home economics students in the context of time travel ( Living History - category) lived for 6 weeks, followed under conditions of the 1950s.
