Norath

Norath is a municipality in the Rhein- Hunsrück district, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Emmelshausen and is the seat of the Catholic Parish of St. Nicholas. Norath is a nationally recognized tourist.

Geography

Norath located in the eastern Hunsrück in Emmelshausen, right on Schinderhannes cycle path.

History

Norath belonged to the rule Braunshorn the Count von Metternich - Winneburg. With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops, the place was French, 1815, he was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. After the First World War at times again occupied by the French, the place is since 1946 part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

The local council in Norath consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The blazon is: " From silver divided over red, above a filled with three golden balls blue book, accompanied forward diagonally right, a black iron mountain, back diagonally left a black mallet, down three silver Hifthörner ".

Hammer and chisel are a reference to the old mining. The three horns are the arms of the Barons of Brown Horn, one of whose fief Norath.

Economy and infrastructure

The old mine Camilla, a lead and zinc mine on the old Roman road, was in the 19th and 20th centuries temporarily back in service and employers. Last digestion works were carried out over several years, with nearly 40 man. The operation was discontinued in the early 1960s. Today there are still extensive and pinging heaps to find.
