Mutterschied

Mutterschied is a municipality in the Rhein- Hunsrück district, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality simmering / Hunsrück.

Geographical location

Mutterschied is centrally located in the Hunsrück between Argenthal and simmering / Hunsrück on the edge of Simmerner trough. With its share of the former royal Soonwaldsteig heard Mutterschied, since 1311 at the latest, to the northern Soonwaldsteig villages. The forest area, territorially separated from the main district, extends into the vicinity of the Simmer head.

History

The situation in the angle of two Roman roads seem a hoard from the reign of Emperor Hadrian, a Roman road posts on the stone road to Bacharach and ancient traces of settlement in the village center and south of it, and two finds of fragments of hand millstones from millstone basalt 700 m west and 500 m east of the village to confirm.

The name Muderscheid or Mudinscheid goes back to the Alemannic personal names Mouthar. The village probably belonged to the Provost area of the Augustinian Canons Ravengiersburg.

Starting no later than 1275 the place belonged to the Wittelsbach Counts Palatine of the Rhine and later the Dukes of Pfalz- simmering. For a 1311 first documentary mention is tangible (share of forest in Märker Soon). 1557 was followed by the introduction of the Reformation. First, the place was Lutheran, then reformed. With the end of the line of Pfalz- simmering 1674 the place came back to Electoral Palatinate and in 1686 re- authorization of the Catholic religion.

With the occupation of the left bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops, the place was French, 1815, he was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. In the 19th century there was a Jenische hut settlement between Mutterschied and Altweidelbach whose cemetery can still be detected. Years of famine could emigrate from 1843 to 1854 more than 50 people to Brazil.

Since 1946 it has been part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

Parish council

The local council in Mutterschied consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
