Charles Thomas McMillen

Charles Thomas " Tom" McMillen ( 1952 born May 26, Elmira, New York ) is a retired American professional basketball player. After the end of his athletic career, he was politically active from 1987 to 1993 and represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles McMillen attended until 1970, the Mansfield High School in Pennsylvania and then studied until 1974 at the University of Maryland. He then continued his education until 1978 continued at the University of Oxford in England. McMillen was pulled in the NBA Draft in 1974 in the first round by the Buffalo Braves, but first played in Italy for Sinudyne Bologna. In 1975 he returned to the United States and played a season in his parent club in Buffalo. Further stations were the New York Knicks (1976-1977), the Atlanta Hawks (1977-1983) and the Washington Bullets ( 1983-1986).

McMillen founded a company that sold electronic parts, and was CEO of an investment company. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 1986 he was in the fourth electoral district of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Marjorie Holt on January 3, 1987. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1993 three legislative periods. In 1992 he applied for a restructuring of electoral districts unsuccessful in the first district to his whereabouts in Congress.

Between 1993 and 1998, McMillen was Deputy Chairman of the Commission appointed by the President fitness. He now lives in Crofton.
