John Campbell (1765–1828)

John Campbell ( * September 11, 1765 in Port Tobacco Village, Charles County, Maryland, † June 23, 1828 in Charles County, Maryland ) was an American politician. Between 1801 and 1811 he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Campbell attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. At the same time, he held several local offices. He also embarked on a political career. End of the 1790s he joined, founded by Alexander Hamilton Federalist Party. For three years he sat in the Senate of Maryland.

In the congressional elections of 1800 Campbell was the first electoral district of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of George Dent on March 4, 1801. After four elections he could pass in Congress until March 3, 1811 five legislative sessions. During his time in Congress, the twelfth Amendment was ratified in 1804. In 1803 the territory of the United States has been considerably enlarged by the Louisiana Purchase.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John Campbell was a judge at the court of guardianship for orphans in Charles County. He died on June 23, 1828 on the farm Charleston in Charles County.
