The 59th Euro Vision Song Contest ( Grand Prix Euro Vision) to be held in the period from 6 to 10 May 2014 in the Danish capital Copenhagen. After Emmelie de Forest had won with the song Only Teardrops on May 18, 2013, 58 Euro Vision Song Contest in Malmo (Sweden), was entrusted with the direction of the Euro Vision Song Contest, the Danmarks Radio ( DR). Denmark is for the third time host of the event after 1964 and 2001.

Venue
On 2 September 2013, the host channels DR and the EBU announced that the Euro Vision Song Contest will be held in 2014 in Copenhagen. The choice of the hall complex on the site of the former B & W shipyard as a venue, the EBU offers the opportunity to modernize the Euro Vision Song Contest with an innovative TV show. The island Refshaleøen on which the old shipyard is located, shall be involved in the planning and wants to offer Euro Vision Iceland visitors a unique experience.
Prior to the city of Aalborg withdrew their application because you do not have enough hotel rooms available.
On 25 June 2013, the city of Fredericia withdrew their application, as their intended venue, the MesseC not meet the standards of the DR. Thus, no columns are allowed to exist within the building, blocking the view. In addition, the entire building must have a minimum height of 16 meters. Since the MesseC, and other envisaged within Fredericia to host building, do not meet these standards, they decided to take back the application.
On June 28, 2013, the stadium operator Parking Sports & Entertainment announced that the Parken Stadium no longer located to host the event " in the race ". The actual users of the stadium, FC Copenhagen will take the venue for its games to complete.
Motto
The official motto of the event is # Joinus. It is a welcome to the human equivalent to traveling to Denmark and will be a part of the event there. The organizers want to enable the visitor to be as close to their candidates.
The additional logo is a blue, radiant diamond, which is symbolic of the variety of performing artists.
New Rules for Jury Voting
The EBU announced on September 20, 2013 announced that the rules of jury voting be easily modified. After rumors of bought votes be given immediately the names of the jurors in each country before the first semifinal known. A judge will also take part in the jury voting no more than two consecutive years. Furthermore, to be proclaimed to the detailed results of each individual jurors, and are aggregated results of the national jury and televoting directly after the final.

Countries
After several moving the deadline to January 9, 2014, 36 countries had agreed to participate. For Slovenia there was a special, so that it could finally satisfied only on 17 January 2014 competition. Thus, 37 countries participate in the competition, as few as the last in 2006 in Athens.

Portugal and Poland take a one-or two -year break on ESC part again. Portugal is currently the country with the most participations, which has never won or even achieved the top five. Bosnia - Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia and Cyprus said financial reasons from their participation.
As in recent years, the Big -Five Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom together with the hosts Denmark are automatically qualified for the final on 10 May 2014. The other countries have been divided into two semi-finals and there must qualify for the final.
Recurring performers
Valentina Monetta will be the fourth artist in history, one behind the other part three times on the Euro Vision Song Contest. In the past, Lys Assia and Corry, the chunks have participated in the Euro Vision Song Contest in 1956, 1957 and 1958, and Udo Jürgens 1964, 1965 and 1966. Here, each of the three performers at least once won the competition. When Helena Paparizou Swedish decider appeared with her song Survivar and made it to the finals. In 2005 she won the Euro Vision Song Contest for Greece.

The semi-final draw was held in Copenhagen on 20 January 2014. The 28 countries were divided into six equal-sized pots. The classification of the pots was on the voting patterns of the past ten years. After that, the countries were randomly assigned to one of the two semi-finals.
Prior to Israel was randomly assigned because of the celebrations for Yom haAtzma'ut on the first day of the first half of the second semi-final. In addition to the Danish radio station DR desire were the two neighboring countries of Denmark, Sweden and Norway, drawn against the first and second semi-final in a special solution, respectively in the first half. Semi-final 1
The first semi-final will take place on May 6, 2014, 21:00 clock ( CEST). Prior to Sweden was assigned to the 1st semi-final.
Danemark Denmark, France and Spain are entitled to vote in this semi-final.

Semi-final 2
The second semi-final will take place on May 8, 2014, 21:00 clock ( CEST). Prior to Israel and Norway were assigned to the second semi-final.
Germany Germany, Italy Italy and the United Kingdom United Kingdom are entitled to vote in this semi-final.
Final
All countries of the Big Five and the host country Denmark, the Emmelie de Forest in 2013 brought victory, have confirmed their participation and are automatically qualified as participants before 10 May 2014 from 21:00 clock (CEST ) compete in the final. The starting number of the host Denmark was already determined at the meeting of delegations on 17 March 2014. The start numbers of the Big 5 members will be announced shortly before the final.
All 37 participants are entitled to vote in the final.

National preliminaries in German-speaking countries (selection)
Germany
As the ARD entertainment coordinator Thomas Schreiber told in an interview, a similar selection process was chosen as the year before. The mission of our song for Denmark took place on March 13, 2014 at 20:30 clock at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. The broadcast was transmitted in the first and took place according to the concept of the previous year. The band Elaiza that had only secured the wildcard Club concert, won the preliminary round and thus the German contribution in Copenhagen.
Austria
After the Austrian jury has decided to internally pick an artist who in 2014 represented the Republic in Copenhagen, singer Conchita chose the ORF the drag artist Tom Neuwirth aka sausage. Sausage had already in 2012 the right to represent their country in Baku, was defeated in the decision but just show the duo Trackshittaz. Switzerland
On 1 February 2014, the final of the Swiss preliminary decision took place in the Bodensee-Arena in Kreuzlingen under the title " The Big Decision Show" instead. To reach this final, each candidate had to make an online voting in the first phase, in which the entered contributions from viewers of the SRF were evaluate by voting. In the second step, the eligible participants were evaluated by a panel of experts, so that each transmitter of Switzerland was able to send at least one representative to the finals in the race. There, finally decided who will represent Switzerland in Copenhagen. In addition to the potential ESC contribution the candidate sang each have a cover version of a famous song. In the evaluation of candidate 50 percent flowed from the jury and the TV audience. Won the singer has Sebalter with his song Hunter of Stars.
