Ulrich Karnatz

Karnatz Ulrich ( born December 2, 1952 in Rostock ) is a former rower from the GDR. 1976 and 1980 was Karnatz Olympic champion in the eighth.

The rowers from ASK forward Rostock in 1972 Junior World Champion in the coxless four. In 1973 he was in the aft GDR champion and was thereafter until 1980 DDR - eighth. 1975, 1977 and 1979, he was again GDR Champion. In the 1974 World Cup, he finished with eight in fourth place. 1975 Karnatz was then for the first time world champion. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976 Bernd Baumgart, Gottfried Döhn, Werner Klatt, Roland Kostulski, Joachim Lück, Dieter Wendish, Ulrich Karnatz, Karl -Heinz Prudöhl and helmsman were Karl -Heinz Danielowski Olympic Champion with over two seconds ahead of the British boat.

In the following years the rollercoaster from the GDR dominated the international rowing. He became world champion in 1977, 1978 and 1979; the world champion crew of 1978 was elected to the GDR to the Team of the Year, with Karnatz was the only world champion of 1978, had in 1976 been sitting in the Olympic eights.

After his career of commander worked for the ASK Rostock. Later he took over the management in a Rostock fish shop.
