Volkesfeld

Volkesfeld is a municipality in the district of Mayen -Koblenz in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Mendig. Volkesfeld is a nationally recognized health resort.

Geographical location

The place is located in the western part of the municipality Mendig in Nettetal and at the foot of Riethel. Volkesfeld is the smallest of the five local communities in the municipality.

History

1217 first mentioned in documents, Volkesfeld was ecclesiastically dependent on upper Mendig. The Lady Chapel was built in 1818.

The mineral springs of Volkesfeld is a nationally recognized source.

The building of 1974 repealed elementary school was converted into a community center (1989 inaugurated ).

Parish council

The local council in Volkesfeld consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 of personalized proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The twelve seats in the municipal council are divided into two groups of voters.

Cultural monuments

In Volkesfeld are some Asked conservation cultural monuments:

  • The Catholic chapel " to Nativity of Mary ", a neo-classical hall building of tufa, 1841; Grave crosses from the 18th century in the cemetery and in the churchyard wall
  • The village fountain, erected in 1863 ( Nice road )
  • A wayside cross from 1757 ( Oberdorfstraße ); east of Volkesfeld still a Crossroads from 1699
  • A milestone from the second half of the 19th century ( on the road to vineyards )
