1983 Norwegian First Division

The first Divisjon 1983 was the 39th season of Norway's highest football league and the 21st season under the name 1 Divisjon. The regular season began on April 24, 1983 and ended on 9 October 1983.

Mode

The twelve teams played in a single round with round-trip game against each other so that each team completed 22 games. Master was the Leading after the last matchday. The last two teams had to dismount. The third last had in a relegation round against the two Second 2nd Divisjon (Group A and B).

Season

Vålerengens IF was the third time Norwegian champion.

As of last season, the performances of the teams were at the beginning very balanced. After nine game days, the gap between the First and the Eighth amounted to only four points. By further four victories in a row Vålerengens IF extended his lead from then on four points. Later in the distance grew even up to seven points after the 18th game day. With two losses in a row but had the other teams still a theoretical chance for the championship title. This Vålerengens IF secured but then a draw in the penultimate round.

Of the climbers Brann Bergen, Eik IF and Kongsvinger IL only Brann Bergen had to descend again.

Play off

Strindheim IL was able to beat the competitor in the relegation and rose. Brann Bergen had after just one season back in the second Divisjon dismount.
