1996 Tippeligaen

The Tippeligaen 1996 was the 52nd season of Norway's highest football league and the sixth season under the name Tippeligaen. The season began on 13 April 1996 and ended on 20 October 1996.

Mode

The fourteen teams in the league played in a simple round-trip round against each other, so that each team completed 26 games. The three last player had to dismount.

Season

Rosenborg BK won for the fifth consecutive year the Norwegian championship. So, they set a new record. It was also the eleventh championship for Rosenborg BK. At the beginning of the season there was a duel with Lillestrøm SK. Several times she took turns at the top, until finally, finally took over the lead of the standings after Round 13 Rosenborg BK and goal for his lead to 16 points. Even after 23 Matchday they had secured the championship early. The cup competition Tromsø IL won for the second time after 1986. Promoted team Skeid Oslo and Strømsgodset IF were able to keep in the Tippeligaen. Only the third promoted team Moss FK had to go back to the 1st Divisjon.
