Acuto

Acuto is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 1937 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 69 km east of Rome and 34 km northwest of Frosinone.

Geography

Acuto is situated on a mountain ridge in the Monti Ernici in the traditional countryside of Ciociaria. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Ernici.

The nearby towns are Anagni, Ferentino, Fiuggi and Piglio.

Traffic

The highway connects SS 155rac Acuto with the places and Fiuggi Frosinone and the A1 Autostrada del Sole motorway, exit at Anagni.

History

According to tradition, Acuto was founded by citizens Anagnis on the run from Genseric's Vandals 455. Archaeological finds prove, however, that the place was inhabited before. As a result, Acuto belonged to the city of Anagni and the 12th century the Bishop of Anagni, who gave the castle to various noble families like the Caetani and Conti.
