In the migration period, the residents moved back into the old, easily defensible place. 744 was the Lombard Duke of Benevento II Gisulf the place to the monastery of Monte Cassino. In San Germano to 1815, the last battle of the Austro- Neapolitan War occurred which led to the re-establishment of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and Bourbon rule.

During the Battle of Monte Cassino 1944 Piedimonte was completely destroyed. From the 1950s, it was built back in fashion, the public facilities were moved to the valley of the Via Casilina Piedimonte Alta. Through the establishment of industries ( FIAT ) Piedimonte experienced an economic boom.
