Amaseno

Amaseno is an Italian town in Lazio, Frosinone in central Italy with 4344 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 30 km south of Frosinone and 100 km southeast of Rome. Until 1872 it was known as San Lorenzo del Valle.

Geography

Amaseno is located in the Valle d' Amaseno in which springs from the same river, in the Ausoni. It is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Lepini, Ausoni e Valliva.

The neighboring municipalities are Castro dei Volsci, Monte San Biagio ( LT), Prossedi ( LT), Roccasecca dei Volsci ( LT), Sonnino ( LT), Valle Corsa and Villa Santo Stefano.

History

Although some archaeological finds were made in the valley of Amaseno, the history of the place lies in the ancient world in the dark. 1125 Castrum Sancti Laurentii is first mentioned in writing. The town of San Lorenzo was built in 1165 by Frederick Barbarossa in the fight against Pope Alexander III. burned down. As a result, it came to the noble families of the de Ceccano, Caetani, Maenza and Colonna. San Lorenzo also always had importance as a fortress on the border of the Papal States to the Kingdom of Naples. In 1872 it was renamed after the municipal area by flowing river in Amaseno.

Policy

Gianna Tonio bonuses ( PD) was elected mayor in 2003 and confirmed in April 2008 in the Official. His left list also provides citizens with 11 of 16 seats, the majority in the City Council.

Attractions

In the winding old town, the remains of the medieval castle and the city walls are still readable and city gates.

  • The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta was built to 1177 over a previous building. It is stylistically in close relationship to the nearby monastery church Fossanova.
  • The Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell'Auricola was built over an ancient temple of Hercules. It was basic renewed end of the 19th century. However, there are still frescoes obtained from the 14th to the 16th century.

Blood miracle

In the church of Santa Maria Assunta is kept as a relic in a glass vial blood of the martyr Lawrence of Rome. Every year, just before the day of his martyrdom, on August 10, the dried blood for a short time liquefied. The first mention of the relic was held on the occasion of the consecration of the church in 1177. However, the first liquefaction is only in the tenure of Pope Paul V, documented, beginning of the 17th century. 1759 was the blood miracle by Clement XIII. officially confirmed.
