Picinisco

Picinisco is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 1228 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Geography

Picinisco, 140 km east of Rome and 58 km east of Frosinone. It extends over a ridge, a spur of the Monti della Meta, between the valleys of Rava and the Melfa. The municipality consists of the villages Fontitune, liscia and Valleporcina. A large part of its territory belongs to the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise. The municipality covers an altitude difference 300-2242 m slm

Picinisco is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle di Comino.

The municipality is located in the seismic zone 1 ( high risk ).

The nearby towns are Alfedena (AQ ), Atina, Barrea (AQ ), Gallinaro, Pizzone (IS ), San Biagio Saracinisco, Sant'Elia Fiumerapido, Settefrati and Villa Latina.

Traffic

Picinisco is connected by state road SS 509 Forca d' Acero di, of Cassino in the Abruzzi to the road network. About it can also be reached in 33 km distance from junction of Cassino A 1 Autostrada del Sole.

In Cassino, 30 km away, is the nearest train station on the railway line Rome - Naples.

History

Picinisco was already inhabited by the Samnites, before it was incorporated into the Roman Empire. Written it was first mentioned when Roger II re- established its borders and the village of the neighboring town of Atina struck. After that, it was until 1806 the Count of Alvito. In 1861 it came to the Kingdom of Italy.
