IIHF Federation Cup 1995

The IIHF Federation Cup in 1994 was the first edition of the discharged by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF competition and was held in parallel to the European Cup. He was held between 11 November and 29 December 1994. A total of 13 teams participated from twelve exclusively Eastern European countries, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was represented as the only country with two participants. Only four teams came from the countries of former Yugoslavia.

During the following host the final tournament, HDD Olimpija Ljubljana, set the other three participants were determined in qualifying tournaments. The first-time winner of the Cup was Salavat Yulaev Ufa of Russia, who prevailed in the final against the Czech participants HC Pardubice.

Preliminary round

The three preliminary round tournaments were held in Oświęcim, Poprad and Belgrade on 11 and 12 November 1994. It played four teams per tournament. The winner of a tournament each received one of the three free starting places in the final tournament. For this he had to deny victorious both the semi-final and the final game of the tournament.

Group A

In group A, which was played in the Polish Oświęcim, Salavat Yulaev Ufa itself was made up by Russia in impressive fashion. They defeated both the Croatian representative KHL Medveščak Zagreb with 21:1 in the semifinal as well as tournament hosts KS Unia Oświęcim, who had set the day before by just against Alba Volán Székesfehérvár, in the final 10-2. Ufa thus secured the right to participate in the final round.

Group B

The discharged in Poprad, Slovakia Tournament Group B saw the Czech team HC Pardubice of the reach the final round. After a clear 12:2 victory over Politechnik Kiev they were in the final against the host SKP Poprad PS, which had prevailed with 20:1 against SC Miercurea Ciuc. In a hard-fought final, which was decided in extra time, Pardubice won 5-4.

Group C

The Group C matches were held in Belgrade. In addition to the HK Bulat Temirtau and the HK Levski Sofia playing with the HK Partizan Belgrade and HK Vojvodina Novi Sad two teams from the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in the tournament. The finale reached Temirtau and Belgrade, the surprising 4-2 prevailed against the Kazakhs.

Final round

The final round-robin tournament was held in Ljubljana, Slovenia on 28 and 29 December 1994. Addition to the host HDD Olimpija Ljubljana the three group winners of groups A, B and C were qualified.

In the semifinals, first met the HC Pardubice to HK Partizan Belgrade and HDD Olimpija Ljubljana to Salavat Yulaev Ufa in both duels the favorites from Pardubice and Ufa translated by sovereign and secured a place in the final. There, the Russians were able to secure a 4-1 win the inaugural Cup. The third place went to the hosts from Ljubljana.
