IIHF European Cup 1972

The Hockey European Cup in the 1971/72 season was the seventh edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition began in September 1971, the final was played in November and December 1972. A total of 16 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended for the third time in a row the title.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the 1970 /71 European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was held in the knockout system in return game. The defending champions CSKA Moscow and the Czechoslovak champion Dukla Jihlava ASD were there set for the semifinals.
