IIHF European Cup 1973

The Hockey European Cup in the 1972/73 season was the eighth edition of the competition of the same name by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF. The competition began in September 1972; the final was played in November 1973 and August 1974. A total of 16 teams took part. The CSKA Moscow defended for the fourth time in a row the title.

Mode and participants

The country masters of the 1971 /72 European members of the IIHF were qualified for the competition. The competition was held in the knockout system in return game. The defending champions CSKA Moscow as well as last year's finalist Brynäs IF Gavle in Sweden were there set for the semifinals.

2nd round

Round 3

A walk-through for the third round last year received the Finalist Sweden Brynäs IF Gävle and the Soviet Union in 1955 CSKA Moscow.
