History

From the beginnings to 1930

English workers brought the game end of the 19th century to Uruguay and soon the football became the national sport. The Uruguayans, it is largely thanks to that the English kick- and- rush style in favor of a modern combination and dribbling game began to fade into the background.

The team from the small Uruguay won in 1916, 1917, 1920, 1923, 1924, 1926 and 1935, the Copa América. 1919, 1922, 1927, took second place. This is where they showed the class of football country Uruguay.

1924 led the Uruguayan style on the world stage to the stunning success of the nations of continental Europe: The compiled from butchers, shoe shiners and vegetable sellers team traveled in 3rd class to the Olympic Games in France.
