Virginia Lancers

The Virginia Lancers were an American Hockey franchise from Vinton, Virginia, which played in the East Coast Hockey League, among others, from 1988 to 1993. Their home games wore out the Lancers in Vinton Sports Complex.

History

The franchise of the Nashville South Stars from the Atlantic Coast Hockey League was by Vinton, Virginia, relocated during the 1983/84 season and was named Virginia Lancers. The Lancers played until the dissolution of ACHL following the 1986/87 season in this and reached their biggest success in that very last ACHL playing time and they are the best team in the regular season were at first and then the Bob Payne Trophy as ACHL Master won. The 1987/88 season spent the Lancers in the All-American Hockey League, but changed to the following season as a founding member of the East Coast Hockey League.

Head Coach Kevin Willison was. In their first ECHL season missed the Lancers the play-offs, in the wake Willison was replaced by Dave Allison. In the following season, improved the results and the Lancers qualified for the play-offs. In the first round the team defeated in four games against the Greensboro Monarchs and was eliminated from the competition. Then the franchise under the name Roanoke Valley Rebels was continued. This played from 1990 to 1992 in the ECHL with moderate success, a time which qualified the team for the play- offs and was eliminated in the first round. A year later, a further name change and the team ran as Roanoke Valley Rampage on the ice. In their only season under this name the play-offs were missed. In 1993 the franchise to Huntsville, Alabama was resettled, where it continues participated under the name of Huntsville Blast game on operation of the ECHL.
