The 21st edition of the Wimbledon Championships in 1897 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Worple Road instead. In the men's Reginald Doherty won his first of four titles in a row. The participants in the All- Comers tournament included seven players in the men's 31, with the ladies.
Men's Singles
In the Challenge Round defeated Reginald Doherty defending champion Harold Mahony in three sets.
Women's Singles
Blanche Bingley Hillyard won by a victory in the Challenge Round about Charlotte Cooper their fourth title.
Men's doubles
The brothers Reginald and Lawrence Doherty defeated Herbert and Wilfred Baddeley in the Challenge Round with 6:4, 4:6, 8:6 and 6:4.
