The 69th edition of the Wimbledon Championships took place in 1955 on the grounds of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Church Road instead.

Before the tournament, larger-scale renovation and remodeling work was completed on the site, which cost about 100,000 pounds. The Court No.. 1 has been expanded to 900 seats, at the southern end of the center court, a balcony was added. This year, until today still valid scheme was introduced that the balls are replaced after the first seven games, and then after every nine games of a match. Until then, the balls were changed after each set.

Men's Singles

Tony Trabert defeated in the final Kurt Nielsen in three sets.

Women's Singles

In the women's Louise Brough won her fourth Wimbledon singles title, after they had already been successful in the years 1948 until 1950.

Men's doubles

In the men's doubles Rex Hartwig and Lew Hoad won.

Women Doubles

In women's doubles, the British women Angela Buxton and Anne Shilcock could break the dominance of U.S. players for a short time. They defeated in the finals Shirley Bloomer and Patricia Ward in straight sets.

Mixed

In mixed Doris Hart and Vic Seixas won for the third time in a row.
