Alterkülz
Alterkuelz is a municipality in the Rhein- Hunsrück district, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Kastellaun.
Geography
The place is located in Alterkuelz Külzbachtal, it extends remarkably long on the road L 108, which leads by name as "main street" through the town. For Alterkuelz also got the nickname " longest village in the Hunsrück ." To place a part of the southeast Located in Osterkülztal settlement Osterkülzmühle and the military district.

History
Alterkuelz belonged until 1417 to the Front County of Sponheim. After the extinction of Sponheim line of site with Kastellaun got to the Rear County. Within the County of Sponheim, the village belonged to Hasselbacher care in the Official Kastellaun. Over the centuries Alterkuelz has grown together from multiple locations ( sub- village, village funds, over brook and weir). Even in 1865, the district military as a separate hamlet is mentioned.
Behind the southern end of the village you can find near the Külzbachs the remains of a medieval iron smelting (melting ) and the remains of mine oath, and intersected by the road, a hill on which was a Roman villa ( villa rustica).
From 1901 to 1983, the place was a railway station on the Hunsrück Railway simmering - Kastellaun - Boppard. At the beginning of the 21st century, the former railway line has been converted into a paved hiking and biking trail, the Schinderhannes cycle path.
In 2005, the Hunsrück community reached a fifth place in the territorial decision the state competition "Our village has a future".

The local council in Alterkuelz consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
Trade
Businesses are, inter alia, a large steel construction company, a joinery (winter gardens ), a stonemason, a restaurant and several farms. On a hill east of the community on the districts of Alterkuelz and Spesenroth the wind farm is Alterkuelz with seven wind turbines manufacturer Vestas and Enercon E- 82nd
