Pathum Thani Province

Pathum Thani ( Thai: ปทุมธานี, pā.t ʰ t ʰ ā ː ūm nī ː ) is a province ( Changwat ) in central Thailand. It lies north of the capital Bangkok, whose metropolitan region it belongs to. Provincial capital is the same Pathum Thani, by far the largest city but Rangsit.

Geography

The Pathum Thani province is located in the central plain of the Chao Phraya River. The entire province is crossed by a network of artificial canals ( Khlongs ) that irrigate both the numerous rice fields, but also serve as a transport route.

History

Religion

In Amphoe Khlong Luang, the Wat Phra Dhammakaya, the largest temple in Thailand and the center of the now internationally popular Dhammakaya Foundation is located.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the province shows a pink lotus blossom, which is framed by two rice ears. Both symbols represent the fertility of the area.

The tree of the province is the Coral Tree ( Erythrina variegata ), the local flower is the Tiger Lotus ( Nymphaea lotus ).
