Gnewitz

Gnewitz is a municipality in the district of Rostock in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern ( Germany ). The community is managed by the Office of Ticino, located in the eponymous city. In the district Gnewitz there are prehistoric megalithic tombs, including, according to Ewald Schuldt four passage graves, three Rechteckdolmen - so-called "extended dolmen " - and a barrow without chamber.

Geography

The community is situated in a ground moraine Gnewitz about 30 kilometers east of Rostock. In the southeast the terrain falls about 20 meters to Recknitztal from back. The nearest towns are Ticino, Marlow and Bad aspic.

To Gnewitz include the districts Barkvieren and Neubarkvieren.

History

Gnewitz was first mentioned in a document issued in Rostock on August 29, 1297 deed. The name Gnewitz comes from the Slavic ( Slavonic Gnevu ) which means wrath, anger, ie the grim place, angry man called.
